(Plein air) Cherish Bromeliad Plants

Oil on canvas
46 x 33.5 cm

I wanted to keep working on the head statue but my model is sick. So, instead, I did a plein air of plant at my back yard. This plant is an epiphytic bromeliad plant. It grows on the trunk of tree. I bought two sets of them when i went to the local market of vegetable and fruits in Belize City last Saturday. They look stunning with sharp long leaves and tinny purple tubes of flowers.

Head Statue Cisneros(3rd day)

( click the pic to get a clear image)
This is how the statue looks like after my model and i worked for twelve hours. We began from last Thursday and Friday then again this morning. Everyday we work for four hours. I'm impressed about my model's persistence. Couple months ago, i tried to do a sketch of his head but he couldn't stay still too long. At that time I wasn't sure if he could pose for my sculpture. It isn't easy but now I can tell that he is the perfect candidate. This oil based clay head statue should be ready within three weeks.

Oil based clay

This morning i began my second head statue and I tried to remind myself to work on the overall form first. I wasted too much time going back and forth when i sculpted the first one. So, this time, I have to make sure the form is correct before i begin to work on the details. My model and I, we worked a little more than four hours today. Tomorrow we'll spend another 4 hours making sure every corner of it is right.

My friend, Cisneros poses for me.

(Studio painting) Quardruplets of Fire Glass

(Click the pic to get a clear image)
For the last two weeks, I've been working on those four studio paintings. They are based on the glass studies I did lately. Along with the artists from the gallery, El Caimito, from Merida Mexico, these quardruplets will joine their works for an art exhibition in Mexico end of July this year.

Nude Study 15 and 16

Study 16

11.5 x 22.5 cm

I did enjoy very much working with my model this morning. I did two studies and felt quite relaxed at the end of our session. Many times, I stress myself out because I try so hard to have every details right. But, does it work?  Well.. I doubt about it. It doesn't work most of the times and it makes things worse. Works come out best when I'm totally comfortable with myself. It isn't easy to let go of things, thoughts and feeling... and very often, I have to remind myself  to let go of my ego. Guess after all, I'm just a ordinary human being!

(Still life) Glass from Galaxy

I have been painting those glasses for a while. Despite that they do give me hard time, I'm so fascinated by their colors. And i do want to see how well i can interpret every single one of them. One thing I've learnt so far is that i have to focuse on analyzing their values and colors but at the same time i have to let go of them. It sounds confusing right! Yes. It's like loving someone dearly and you have to make sure you don't suffocate this person too. I love my paintings but i dont want to kill them!!! 😱

(Still life) Dragon Glass

Oil on canvas board
22 x 27 cm

It seems easy to paint a single object. But, no. It isn't easy at all to me. I had hard time working on this small still life. There's a moment i almost wanted to give it up but i told myself, hang on just a little longer. So much struggles just to stare at this small glass!!! 😓
