A Beautiful View

22cm x 27cm
Oil on panel
This was definitely a nice place to paint. Actually there was a big tree in front of the view. I ignored it because it would cause complication. I kept it simply so I could focus on the value and color. I like it a lot!

Study Lined Up Trees

22cm x 27cm

This morning I drove from City to Ladyville trying to find the right spot for my plein air study. I was a little disappointed at the beginning but on the way back, I saw couples of nice scenery. This week definitely I'll spend time there.

Figure study Alobi reads Kahlil Gibran

35.5cm x 46cm
Oil on panel
It's the second session of Alobi. I asked Alobi to read a book and time went faster while listening to the music of Yo-Yo Ma and a Japanese pianist called Kumi Miyagawa. After classical, we switched to Janis Joplin and Tracy Chapman. I told Alobi that I rarely happy with my work. No exception for this morning's study. The sofa looked like a floating sofa! Why? Why couldn't I do it better! Why couldn't I paint the image I saw from my head. Did I loose my patient? YES. YAOLING, YOU ARE! I know, sometimes, I drive myself crazy unconsciously. I should just keep working and not thinking!!! Like a machine?

Sketch at the Princess Hotel

25.5cm x 17.5cm
Oil on panel
I did another study by the swimming pool at noon again. It looked ok but the color and value were still a big problem. I think next time I'll limit my palette color to only 4 and focus on the value and color. I need to do some real studies!!!

Figure study Alobi

27cm x 41cm
Oil on canvas
I wanted to finish this study and begin another one tomorrow but I spent too much time on adjusting the arme. Well, at least the process was quite smooth. I like the light green background.
